AirPods Pro Firmware Versions & Software Breakdown

AirPods Software Compatibility Guide

When purchasing a replacement AirPod, it's essential to ensure the firmware version matches your existing set. If the firmware is too outdated, it may not sync or function properly with your other AirPods or charging case.

How to Check Your AirPods Firmware Version

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap Bluetooth and locate your AirPods in the list.
  3. Click the (i) icon next to your AirPods.
  4. Scroll down to find the Version number.

Understanding Compatibility

  • Firmware versions 5, 6, and 7 only sync with their own levels. For example:
    • Version 5.x AirPods will only pair with other 5.x firmware AirPods.
    • Version 6.x AirPods will only work with other 6.x firmware AirPods.
    • Version 7.x AirPods will only sync with other 7.x firmware AirPods.
  • The current firmware version is 7B21.
  • If your AirPods have a firmware version above the red line in the chart (e.g., 6A305 or older), they may not sync with newer versions.
  • The further down the list your firmware is, the longer it may take for your AirPods to update and sync properly.

📌 Important: If you are buying a replacement AirPod, always confirm the firmware version to avoid pairing issues.
